Restaurant in the Trees
Sunday 28th September 2014
It's an R&R day today. Time to rest up the weary bones and do nothing. By midday the sun is quite warm but there is a chill in the air in the early morning and in the evening. Winter is coming!
We take a short trip into Kemer for a late breakfast / early lunch. The others go home after our meal but I go further into the town to find a cafe with wifi so I can catch up on the blog. Kemer is busy and up market. There are a lot of Russian accents around.
In the evening we ride out to an extraordinary
restaurant known to Karl-Heinz. It is high up in the mountain and built
up into and around some big trees. Very ingenious and quite, quite
crazy.
The owner Ali is very proud of his creation. At this quiet time of year he runs a one-man show, cooking, serving and chatting. We are the only patrons tonight.
There is a modern kitchen but also a stone oven where he bakes flat bread, potatoes and mushrooms stuffed with cheese.
The road up to the Rivera Restaurant is appalling. It snakes up the mountain, all hairpins, ruts and loose gravel. It is not much fun going back down in the dark but we make it.
And so ends another day in Turkey.
