Everything Is Awesome Again

Wednesday 17th September 2014

In the morning I call BMW at 7:30am but get nowhere. It turns out I am trying to talk to the overnight security guy. Finally at 8am, in desperation, I call Alper Selvi to see if he can help.

From here on in Alper takes over. He calls BMW Motorrad, explains the problem to the services manager, gets the number of a breakdown service, arranges a pick up for me and the bike including a hefty discount from the initial asking price, all the time keeping me up to speed via SMS and a few calls.

A sad sight

So at 10:30am the bike is loaded onto the back of the breakdown truck and an hour later is in the BMW service garage. A replacement part has been ordered and is on it's way. The Services Manager takes us all for a free lunch in the staff canteen.

Arriving at Izmir Motorrad

By 2pm the bike is fixed, washed and checked over and we are on our way. Total cost including transport is £140. We are back on the road and the stress of the last 24 hours is soon forgotten.

A busy day at Motosiklet Servis

A new motorway carries us rapidly south to the turn for Kusadasi. This is a real boomtown. A village only 30 years ago it is now a sizeable town full of expatriates and a plethora of restaurants, bars and shops.

Huge cruise ships are often moored in the deep water bay. The passengers are here to visit The Roman ruins at Ephesus, just a few miles inland from Kusudasi.

Bob and Margaret have a 4 bedroom apartment in a prestigious complex built around a lovely big swimming pool. It is a great spot, a real overload of comfort and pleasure after some of the places we have stayed so far.

Chez Bob et Margaret
We go out in the evening to the Captains House, where Bob and Margaret are well known patrons. The town is buzzing late into the evening as we enjoy our meals. Margaret, Charly and I neck a couple of bottles of decent red wine. Bob and Karl-Heinz are on Efes lager.

And so a stress laden day ends with laughter and jokes in a most relaxing atmosphere.
